State of California Department of Insurance 9 — Personal Property This coverage provides protection for the contents of your home and other personal belongings owned by you and other family members who live with you. Personal Property coverage is normally 50% of the dwelling coverage or is subject to an established amount agreed upon by you and the insurance company. Coverage is limited on certain types of property that are especially susceptible to loss, such as: • Jewelry • Antiques • Furs • Collectibles • Fine arts • Firearms • Silverware • Money Additional amounts of insurance may be purchased. You may want to consider scheduling these items separately. Ask your agent for specifics. — Loss of Use( Additional Living Expenses/Fair Rental Value) Homeowners policies provide coverage for Loss of Use if a covered loss makes the part of the residence where the insured resides, or rents to others, uninhabitable. Loss of Use is generally limited to 20% of the dwelling coverage. However, some insurers place no maximum dollar limit, but they may limit the period of time after the loss when benefits are payable. Generally compensation for Loss of Use is payed as either Additional Living Expense (ALE) or Fair Rental Value (FRV).
