Biography
![]() Laurie Menchaca joined the California Department of Insurance as Chief of the Human Resources Management Division in April 2016, wherein she oversaw all Department functions related to human resources, including Personnel Transactions, Classification and Pay, Selections and Recruitment, Performance Management, Training, and Labor Relations. She has worked for the State of California since 1993 and prior to joining the Department of Insurance, she spent the majority of her career in various areas of human resources for the California Public Employees' Retirement System. On September 1, 2022, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara announced the promotion and appointment of Laurie to the position of Deputy Commissioner for the Administration and Licensing Services Branch. In this role, Laurie oversees all aspects of administrative support services to the Department including budgets, accounting, business services, human resources, and information technology. The Branch also provides licensing services to insurance agents, brokers, adjusters, and bail agents and assistance to the California Insurance Commissioner in performing adjudicatory tasks. Laurie graduated from the California State University at Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Management of Human Resources and Organizational Behavior).
